Seacoast Rotary names Turkey Trot beneficiaries 2018 race to aid Seacoast Pathways, Veterans Martial Arts Training

Portsmouth Herald - 5/18/2018

PORTSMOUTH - The Seacoast Rotary Club of Portsmouth named Seacoast Pathways and Veterans Martial Arts Training as its 2018 Turkey Trot beneficiaries at its annual awards reception Wednesday.

Rotarians also presented 10 area organizations with a collective $25,000 in grants at the reception at the Tyco Visitors Center at Strawbery Banke.

Seacoast Rotary's panel of 13 member reviewers was tasked this year with selecting 10 organizations from a pool of 40 applicants. The organizations received grants ranging from $1,200 to $5,000 to carry out work that will impact Seacoast residents. The panel also named the 2018 trot beneficiaries.

The Turkey Trot is Seacoast Rotary's annual 5K road race Thanksgiving morning that draws about 2,500 participants. Last year's beneficiaries, Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation and Seacoast Family Promise, each received more than $13,500 in unrestricted funds from race profits.

"Each of the 12 organizations that we recognized is doing vital work for our Seacoast community," said Seacoast Rotary's President Barbara Trimble. "To help fund and celebrate their work this evening is something that our club takes great pride in."

Seacoast Pathways supports adults living with mental illness on their paths to recovery through the work-ordered day by providing a restorative environment for members to come together for health, wellness, employment, fellowship and education. Veterans Martial Arts Training provides free martial arts training to active, reserve and honorably discharged U.S. military veterans.

Grant recipients included Big Brothers Big Sisters, My Breast Cancer Support, New Generation, Seacoast VeloKids, Krempels Center, New Heights, Goodwin Community Health, Gather, End 68 Hours of Hunger and Richie McFarland Children's Center.
